Ayako is a professional doctor but also works as a miko. Allthrough the manga it seems, she only pretents to have special powers, but it turns out that she's able to summon treespirits and purify bad spirits with their help.
Ayako is often playing the roll of a cold-hearted woman but she's actually caring and thoughtful. Guesses are, her job as doctor did harden her alot on th outside but not on the inside.
